Primary Grades Areas of Focus and Development

Over the course of the upcoming primary school years, your child will encounter a multitude of fresh challenges, experiences, and opportunities for personal development. To ensure they make the most of this period, it is essential for parents to be well-informed on our approach.

Assessments and Tests

During your child’s educational journey, they will engage in a range of assessments and tests aimed at evaluating their academic levels and progress. These assessments serve as valuable tools for monitoring their development throughout their schooling years.

Assessment Prior to Admission

Prior to admission, your child will undergo an assessment covering essential areas such as reading, reading comprehension, mathematics, and logic. This evaluation is conducted to gauge their proficiency and understanding in these subjects before enrolling.

Mastery and Periodic Tests

During your child’s tenure at our school, they will undergo four Mastery and Periodic Tests, along with weekly quizzes. These assessments are designed to gauge their mastery of the subjects and track their progress on a regular basis. By engaging in these tests and quizzes, your child will have frequent opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of the material and enhance their learning experience.

Establishing Effective Study Habits

Our school prioritises the well-being of children and works diligently to ensure they do not feel overwhelmed or pressured. One way we achieve this is by establishing effective study habits. To support this, we provide study guides promptly after introducing new lessons, encouraging reinforcement of the material at home. In addition to regular assessments, we incorporate quizzes into our educational approach. These quizzes are announced in advance, providing children with the opportunity to prepare with the supervision of their parents. By doing so, we aim to alleviate any potential feelings of overwhelm that may arise during longer tests or mastery tests. These quizzes serve as checkpoints to gauge understanding and progress, allowing parents, children and teachers to assess the children’s knowledge. Additionally, our lessons are tailored to accommodate the level and skills of the majority of students in each class.

Assessment to Gauge Insights Into the Teachers’ Materials and Methods

It is important to note that assessments are not designed to set children up for failure. Rather, they serve as a valuable tool to assess the effectiveness of the teacher’s lessons and teaching methods. Through assessments, we gain insights into how well the material has been understood and identify areas that may require modification, adjustment, or additional challenge based on the diverse needs of our students. Our ultimate goal is to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters growth and development for all.
